Stop & Shop store closures: Several locations closing this week in Northeast
As October draws to a close, so too will the doors of Stop & Shops stores in five states arrive November.
The grocer first announced the closure of 32 “underperforming” stores in July, saying shuttering the nearly three dozen Northeastern locations will “position the business for growth.” Shutting down on a rolling basis, all of the stores will be closed on or before Saturday, Nov. 2.
“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and throng ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers and communities,” Stop & Shop President, Gordon Reid, said in a July press release. “Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store holdings and made the challenging selection to close underperforming stores to make a well base for the upcoming growth of our brand.”
The grocery chain, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize USA business, will continue to operate 350 locations across five states. The closure announcement said that employees of the impacted stores will be offered positions elsewhere in the business.
“Our associates are a powerful throng dedicated to growing and working together, and all of our store associates will continue to have a place in the Stop & Shop household as we look forward to serving customers at other nearby locations,” added Reid.
