Exxon Mobil laying off nearly 400 Texas workers after Pioneer Natural combination

Exxon Mobil is laying off nearly 400 employees in Texas after a recent combination with fellow oil and gas corporation Pioneer Natural.

The Texas Workforce percentage, a state agency that oversees workforce advancement services, made the announcement in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification or alert notice. 

alert notices are issued when mass layoffs are announced, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

According to the notice, 397 employees at five different locations in large Lake, Irving and Midland, Texas will be impacted. Layoffs will receive place over the next two years between Dec. 31 and May 2026. 

The biggest impact will be at a store located on Hidden Ridge in Irving, about 16 miles northwest of Dallas.

When asked about the layoffs, Exxon Mobil said in a statement to USA TODAY Friday that impacted employees were offered “shift roles” and some turned the offers down.

“Our employment schedule has not changed,” the corporation said in the statement. “The achievement of this combination depends heavily on the retention of Pioneer’s talented workforce, and more than 1,900 Pioneer employees were offered jobs as part of the combination.”

Which locations will encounter layoffs?

According to the announcement, employees at five different locations will be laid off between December 31 and May 2026. Layoffs will occur in waves.

777 Hidden Ridge in Irving – 376 employees total

  • 103 employees on Dec. 31, 2024
  • 46 employees on March 31, 2025
  • 82 employees on June 30, 2025
  • 28 employees on Sept. 30, 2025
  • 11 employees on December 31, 2025
  • 74 employees on March 31, 2026
  • 32 employees on  May 3, 2026
