One person is dead and over a dozen others were hospitalized due to an E. coli outbreak connected to recalled organic carrots, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On Saturday, Grimmway Farms recalled multiple sizes and brands of baby and whole organic carrots tied to the outbreak.

Of the 39 people reported to have been affected by the outbreak, one person died and 15 were hospitalized, according to the CDC. Those affected live across 18 states.

The organic carrots are from multiple brands sold by Grimmway Farms, the agency stated. While the affected carrots are likely no longer in stores, they could still be in people’s homes.

What to do with the recalled carrots

People who still have the recalled carrots in their homes are asked not to eat them and instead yield them to the store or throw them away.

Wash any surfaces or items that may have touched the carrots using warm soapy water or a dishwasher.
