2.6 million Stanley mugs recalled after 38 reported burn injuries due to faulty lid
The recall was issued for 2.6 million Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel trip mugs.
Stanley issued a recall of 2.6 million of the popular drinkware business’s Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel trip mugs due to a defect causing burn injuries, according to the buyer Product Safety percentage.
The rationale for the recall is due to the mug’s lid threads shrinking “when exposed to heat and torque,” which causes “the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard,” the CPSC said on Thursday.
To remedy the circumstance, the CPSC is suggesting consumers “immediately stop using the recalled trip mugs and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid, including shipping.”
The affected mugs have been sold in the U.S. and in a variety of colors and sizes, including 12 ounces, 16 ounces and 20 ounces, according to the CPSC. The mug’s lid is made out of polypropylene, a ordinary thermoplastic that is chemical resistant, heat resistant, flame resistant and gas and water permeability resistant, German manufacturer Xometry said.
“At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant advancement and are concentrated on creating standard products that are built for life,” the business wrote in a Facebook post announcing the recall.
