Powerball winning numbers for December 23 drawing: Jackpot rises to $103 million

The Powerball jackpot for Monday night’s draw hit six figures after no one won the grand prize Saturday, creating a potentially massive Christmas shock for a lucky player.

The prize was an estimated $103 million with a $47 million money alternative, but it increased after the jackpot went unclaimed again. The Powerball numbers were drawn shortly after 11 p.m. ET and USA TODAY has the results below.

While no one took home the jackpot Saturday, tickets in Indiana and recent Jersey matched the five numbers and the Power Play to triumph $2 million, and a ticket sold in Illinois matched the five numbers to triumph $1 million.

After Monday’s drawing, the jackpot went up to an estimated $117 million, with a money worth of $53.4 million.

The last jackpot winner came earlier this month when a ticket sold in recent York matched the five numbers and the Powerball to triumph $256 million.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are long. Players have a one in 292,201,338 shot at winning the grand prize, a one in 11,688,053.52 shot at winning the $1 million prize and a one in 24.87 chance of winning any prize.

How to play the Powerball

In order to purchase a $2 Powerball ticket, you’ll have to visit your local convenience store, gas station or grocery store − and in a handful of states, you can purchase tickets online.

To play, you will require to pick six numbers in total to mark on your ticket. Five numbers will be white balls ranging from numbers 1 to 69. The Powerball is red and one number which is between 1 and 26.

If you desire to boost your chances of winning, you can add a “Power Play” for $1 which increases the winnings for all non-jackpot prizes. This addition can multiply winnings by 2X3X, 4X5X or 10X.

Players can also inquire a cashier for a “Quick Pick” where a cashier will provide you computer generated numbers on a printed Powerball ticket.

Drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. If there’s no jackpot winner, the money prize will boost by millions.
