BMW recalls 2024: Check the list of models recalled this year

Several recalls were issued this year for BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) vehicles.

The recall update data is from Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 27, 2024. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) compiles data from the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalls by automobile manufacturers.  

USA TODAY reached out to BMW about the recalls.

“Customer safety and satisfaction are top priority for the BMW throng. As the leading manufacturer of extra charge vehicles, we are committed to providing our customers with vehicles of the highest standard,” a spokesperson from the luxury vehicles corporation said in a statement “Recent media discussions over the cluster of recalls in the history few months should not be interpreted as an indication that the number or frequency of recalls has increased in 2024. In truth, several recent standard studies display that the BMW throng is performing well compared to its competitors and is ahead of its key competitors in relevant studies.”

BMW recalls of 2024 

Jan. 24: Recall for adhesive residue issue

BMW recalled sure 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre electric vehicles because the ground connection cable between the front electric motor and the vehicle chassis may contain adhesive residue which can boost electrical resistance and factor an insufficient ground, according to the NHTSA update. The side case latch hooks may not snap properly into the lock which can factor the lid to open, according to the NHTSA. When this happens, the case could detach from the motorcycle, the update said. If a case or lid detaches, the objects within the case could fall out, creating a road hazard for oncoming motorists. As a outcome, this will boost the hazard of a crash.

April 24: Recall for air bag rupture 

BMW recalled sure 2014-2015 2 Series Coupe (228i, 228i xDrive, M235i), 3 Series Sedan (320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335i xDrive, M3, 328d, 328d xDrive), 4 Series Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive, M4), and 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive) vehicles.

 In the NHTSA update, the corporation said that the head air bag inflator may fall short at the weld joint which can factor gas to leak from the inflator or factor a rupture. In the NHTSA update, the luxury vehicles corporation said the driver’s airbag inflator may explode during deployment because of a manufacturing defect. If an inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments may strike the driver or their passengers, increasing the hazard of injury or death, the update said.

Aug 13: Recall for water pump malfunction

In the NHTSA update, the luxury vehicles corporation said, “an improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.” An electrical short increases the hazard of a fire, the update said.

Sept. 18: Recall for improperly welded brake control module setback

BMW recalled sure 2023-2024 X1, 2024-2025 X5, 2025 X6, 2023-2025 X7, 740i, 760i, 2024 XM, 530i, 540i, i7, 750e, X2, 2024-2025 i5, 2024 Rolls Royce Spectre, 2025 MINI Countryman S ALL4, JCW Countryman ALL4, and 2025 MINI Hardtop 2 Door (Cooper, Cooper S) vehicles.

The NHTSA update said that the welds in the servomotor of the integrated brake control module may shatter which can factor a setback of power brake assist and rear brake function. In addition, the update said the Antilock Brake structure (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) structure may not function properly.

Oct. 2: Recall for brake structure malfunction  

BMW recalled sure 2023-2024 X1, X5, X6, X7, XM, 530i, i5, 740i, 760i, i7, and 750e vehicles.

The NHTSA update said that the integrated brake structure may malfunction and outcome in a setback of power brake assist or factor the Antilock Brake and Dynamic Stability Control systems to not function properly. A setback of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, the update said.

Nov. 4: Recall for structure strength not protecting passengers  

BMW recalled sure 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i vehicles.

Dec. 5: Recall for cracked roof frame

BMW recalled sure 2025 X4 xDrive 30i, X4 M40i and X4 M vehicles.

The inner-left roof frame near the head air bag may have a crack that can damage the head air bag during deployment, according to the NHTSA update.
