Ford reveals first special edition of its Mustang GTD supercar, starting at $325,000

For Mustang enthusiasts, life just got a little sweeter. Ford Motor Co. is offering the first special edition of its Mustang GTD — the high-act, street-legal supercar the corporation started shipping this year.
Last month, the Mustang GTD became the first car from an American automaker to complete Germany’s Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes. To mark that achievement, on Thursday night, ahead of the Detroit Auto display media day, Ford introduced the Mustang GTD Spirit of America edition.
The Spirit of America’s body is a act White with twin racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, meant to mimick the iconic red, white, and blue Mustang tribar that debuted in 1964. The stripes run the length of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America’s body and the design matches the overalls that Craig Breedlove wore when he broke both the 500- and 600-mph barriers in the 1960s.
Breedlove was a structural engineering tech in the aerospace industry who bought a $500 jet engine from a Korean War fighter plane and became the first person to reach 500- and 600-mph on land. His record setting, in a sport at the period dominated by European aristocrats, helped inspire American car designers, engineers and inventors, including those who worked on the Mustang GTD program, Ford said.
“Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of Mustang act. Mustang GTD Spirit of America celebrates the daring behind that act,” Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens said in a statement. “Mustang GTD wouldn’t have been feasible without people like Craig Breedlove, pushing the edge of the envelope and challenging the Goliaths of the day in an all-American way.”
Exposed carbon fiber is a primary element on the Mustang GTD Spirit of America’s aerodynamic elements, Ford said, including the front splitter and on the rear diffuser and spoiler.
The spoiler includes Race Red complete plates and “MUSTANG” spelled out on the underside. Buyers can choose Race Red or exposed carbon-fiber mirror caps, while Race Red brake calipers are standard. The Mustang GTD act Package is standard.
Ford spokesman Brandon Turkus said Mustang GTD Spirit of America is available for order now “for approved applicants in all Mustang GTD markets.” Ford is not sharing pricing for specific Mustang GTD special editions and options, he said, but the Mustang GTD starts at around $325,000.
Ford said the Mustang GTD Spirit of America edition also features a package-specific seat alternative in the all-glass cockpit. The seats are leather-trimmed with Dinamica inserts. Dinamica is a material that resembles suede. Ford describes the seats as black onyx with “a Race Red gradient stripe down the middle and Re-Entry White trimmings on the exterior, while win Blue contrast stitching provides a subtle pop of color.”
Ford said win Blue is a contrast color throughout the interior, and the paddle shifters, shift ring and IP badge are available in 3D-printed titanium, as well.
The 2025 Mustang GTD, including Mustang GTD Spirit of America, offers 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque and a top speed of 202 mph, the most of any street-legal Mustang ever.
