Over 140,000 trailer hitch locks recalled for uncertainty of detachment from vehicle

More than 140,000 trailer hitch locks are being recalled due to a loose part that could factor towing vehicles to detach from their loads.

Horizon Global is recalling sure Reese hitch receiver locks produced between Sept. 19, 2019, and June 10, 2024, due to a manufacturing error.

According to the recall notice submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Dec. 23 and published this week, the cap on the receiver lock may misplace its retention over period or under sure circumstances, causing the lock to become loose and divide from the pin, according to the notice. This could factor the impacted vehicle to divide from whatever it is hitched to, increasing the uncertainty of a crash.

The recall covers 145,431 units. No accidents or injuries related to this state have been reported.
