Over 2,000 cases of Great worth chicken broth sold at Walmart recalled in 9 states

Just over 2,000 cases of chicken broth sold at Walmart have been recalled due to a packaging issue that could navigator to product spoilage, a Walmart spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY Monday morning.

The product, household-sized, 48-ounce cartons of Great worth Chicken Broth, are sold in aseptic document cartons that could “compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage,” according to an announcement posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.

Altogether, 2,023 cases have been recalled, according to the announcement.

The recalled products were sold in 242 stores in nine states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, Walmart said Monday morning.

“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart said in a statement to USA TODAY. “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted (products) from … select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate.”

Who initiated the recall?

According to the recall announcement posted online, the corporation that recalled the product is Tree House Foods Inc. of Oak Brook, British Columbia. The corporation issued the recall on Dec. 11.

Walmart said any customers who have bought the product should not consume it and should throw it away. They can also request a packed refund.
